DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACY

Pharmacy Lab

Department is having following labs as per to university curriculum :

Pharmaceutics

Pharmaceutics is the discipline of pharmacy that deals with the practical aspects of manufacturing, formulation and evaluation of various pharmaceutical dosage forms. This laboratory provides elementary knowledge about the manufacturing of pharmaceutical preparations and used for the preparation of aromatic waters, syrups, liniments, lozenges, lotions, tinctures, poultice etc.

This laboratory also deals in experiments and research work which are carried out on formulation of different dosage forms, technology based experiments as well as Novel Drug Delivery Systems (NDDS) ; it also focuses on the preparation and evaluation of cosmetics. As well as it covers basic topics like development of new drugs, preformulation, along with principles of formulation design.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Department of Pharmaceutical chemistry utilizes research techniques of chemistry in conjunction with other developments in biochemistry, computational chemistry, pharmacognosy, and pharmacology to advance drug discovery. It comprises various labs for their specific purpose.

Pharmaceutical organic and Inorganic chemistry lab
1.To carry out the synthesis of drugs.
2.Toprovide understandings of SAR of various drugs.
3.To synthesize and analyze inorganic pharmaceuticals.
4.To impart various hands-on training on sophisticated instruments.

Pharmaceutical analysis lab
1. To carry out the semi-quantitative, quantitative & qualitative analysis of drugs/chemicals as per pharmacopoeial standard.
2. To gain knowledge of advanced techniques like flame photometer, Nephelo Turbidity meter, UV-visible spectrophotometers, and HPLC.

Biochemistry lab
To get the practical knowledge of pathological examinations urine, saliva and blood, etc.

Pharmacology

Department of pharmacology deals with the study of the action of drugs and their interaction with the living system which impart the rational basis for the therapeutic use of drugs. Scientific understanding of drugs enables us to predict the pharmacological effect of a new chemical intended to be used for mankind.
The department of pharmacology comprised of:

  • 1. Pharmacology Lab I:
Practical training on state-of-the-art equipments and instruments.
Kymograph for bioassay of various drugs
    Rota Rod apparatus
    Actophotometer
    Electroconvulsiometer
    Cook's pool climbing
  • 2. Pharmacology Lab II:
Meant for experiments related to Toxicology and clinical studies
Equipped with advant-grade software to evaluate effects of drugs via computer simulation
To carry out research on behavioural studies
    CPCSEA approved Animal housue

Pharmacognosy

The Department of Pharmacognosy is engaged in imparting basic and advanced aspects of different natural sources as pharmaceutical raw materials, traditional medicines, phytochemical screening, and scope of Indian medicinal plants in the allied sciences like food, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics. The department deals with the theoretical as well as practical knowledge of undergraduate courses related to pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, analytical pharmacognosy, the chemistry of natural products, herbal drug technology, and nutraceuticals.

The identification, authentication, and standardization of medicinal plants require high-resolution microscopes like projecting microscope, digital microscope, and basic extraction facilities. The Pharmacognosy laboratories are well equipped for offering infrastructure support for complete sample preparation, analysis, and characterization of phytoconstituents. The department also have a well-developed medicinal plant garden with more than 100 plants extending the scope to carry out research on medicinal plants. Instruments and other facilities available in the department are TLC plates and chambers, Soxhlet Apparatus, Extraction and Distillation Unit, Water Bath, Magnetic Stirrers etc.
